The Placement Club of Yadavindra Department of Engineering (YDoE), Punjabi University Guru Kashi Campus, Talwandi Sabo in collaboration with Educational Testing Service (ETS) India Resource Center managed by DP Cube Learning, Noida organised a webinar on the topic ‘TOEFL and GRE General Test’ on 29 June, 2022, Wednesday for the engineering students of the department.

The keynote speaker for the webinar was Ms. Bhanu Sharma from ETS Resource Center managed by DP Cube Learning. The panellists also included Prof. Jasbir Singh Hundal, Director, Punjabi University Guru Kashi Campus and Prof. Simpel Rani Jindal, Head of the Yadavindra Department of Engineering. Dr. Balraj Singh Brar, Faculty Incharge of the Placement Club moderated the session. The placement team, faculty and students of the department attended the webinar. During the inauguration of the session, Prof. Jasbir Singh Hundal, Campus Director emphasised that such trainings and webinars play a key role in the motivation of the students. He further stated that such webinars/talks/workshops will be frequently organised by the Placement Cell of YDoE for the benefit of the students.

The keynote speaker Ms. Bhanu Sharma covered introduction to TOEFL-iBT and GRE General Test. TOEFL-iBt is Test of English as a Foreign Language-Internet based test and GRE means Graduate Record Examinations. Both these tests are conducted world-wide by Education Testing Service and can be reached at www.ets.org. The testing system is very intelligent and highly standardised, so resulting scores are very reliable. The speaker covered the complete information about the contents, structures, validity of the tests, registration, test centers, test preparations, exam scores and exam fees. She gave ample tips for higher scoring, preparation techniques, higher education opportunities and scholarships and funding opportunities for the students. The students were also apprised about academics, research and life at the international campuses of reputed educational institutions and also briefed about the post-study work opportunities.

The deliberations on the topic by the panellists and Question Answer Session emphasised the importance of TOEFL and GRE General Test for the undergraduate engineers. By clearing this combination of tests, a student can get admission in the post-graduation or doctorate level courses in the top-notch universities in United Kingdom, Canada, United States of America, Australia and Europe. Decent score in TOEFL and GRE General Test increases the scholarship and funding opportunities. This provides the opportunities to the students to excel in ones chosen field of technology, research avenues and subsequent placement opportunities in the best of the multi-national companies. The session concluded that clearing TOEFL and GRE will add to the curriculum vitae and confidence of a graduate engineer and open higher education and research opportunities in the top universities of the World. Students must dare to dream and a lot can be achieved.
